Football season is upon us. Let's eat.

Are YOU ready?  It's time.  Fall is here and nothing says Fall like football season.  If you know us, you know we love a healthy spin on just about anything.  We also love the idea of enjoying all your favorite things WHILE still feeling good.  If you're like me, you've spent countless Mondays recounting your Sunday, wondering if all those dips and finger foods were worth the bloat and fatigue.  Take our advice: upgrade your football apps and you won't have to ponder that question anymore.

For the noon games it's all about starting the day right with egg muffins.  These guys are full of flavor.  Your guests are gonna love them. Healthy fat and protein to cushion this delish bloody mary that's coming your way (see below.)
{This recipe makes about 12 muffins}
  • 12 eggs (organic, free range)
  • A little coconut oil, olive oil or grass-fed butter to line the muffin tins with
  • Sea salt + pepper to taste
  • Vegetables — I made the following 3 kinds:
Tomato + basil (1/4 cup chopped tomatoes, 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil)
Mushroom + asparagus (4 stalks and 1/4 cup chopped mushrooms)
  • Pre-heat oven to 350. Lightly grease muffin tins with coconut oil, olive oil or grass-fed butter.
  • Chop veggies.
  • Whisk eggs well in a large bowl, add sea salt + pepper.
  • Stir in veggies. (If you’re making different flavors, you’ll need to ration the eggs into different bowls for each flavor).
  • Pour into muffin tins.
  • Bake for 20-25 mins until eggs are cooked through.
Then... no football party is complete without chips and dips, eh?  Our favorite dips - guacamole, pico de gallo, and mango salsa.  Make your own or pick these up at your local Whole Foods.

Ready to make your own tortilla chips and WOW your friends? We've got you covered.

Tortilla Chips.  This recipe is so simple, you'll have to read it twice.

Grab a package of small corn tortillas (our preference are the true, 3 ingredient guys) and cut into six wedges.  Spray a baking sheet with coconut oil cooking spray and spread the tortilla slices out evenly. Sprinkle with sea salt, garlic salt and pepper.  Place the oven on broil - two minutes on each side and you have your own tortillas!

Another great tip when party planning is the presentation.  Take your average chopped veggies and dip and place them in glass jars and just like anything that looks fun and new... your guests might just reach right for these.  We love to make our own "faux" ranch and it is out of this world and nutritious (and you know how much we love nutrients in unlikely places.)  YUM.

Faux ranch
⅔ cup raw cashews, soaked overnight & drained
1 cup coconut milk
1 lemon, juiced
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
1 tablespoon fresh chopped chives
½ teaspoon dried dill

  1. Grind cashews until you get a paste like texture.
  2. Add coconut milk a little at a time and blend until you have a smooth paste - this will take several minutes.
  3. Once the mixture is smooth, add the rest of the coconut milk and the lemon juice, then blend until smooth.
  4. Add the seasonings and fresh herbs and blend until smooth.
  5. Enjoy as salad dressing and/or dip!

Other awesome football snack (and drink ideas!):

Homemade popcorn. One of our favorites is to make popcorn cooked in ghee or coconut oil and drizzle with a little melted ghee on top, tamari and nutritional yeast.  You actually get a hefty dose of vitamins and minerals here, no joke.

We know a football Sunday might include a tasty beverage or two.  If a Bloody Mary has you name on it, look no further then this tasty homemade bloody.  Alcohol or no alcohol, this is a winner.

Is beer your jam?  Here's a little nugget that you might not know.  There is no labeling of ingredients on beer.  Some of your favorite beers might have ingredients that you would rather not have.  This might also explain why beer can leaveyou feeling "just not right..." It might not be the actual alcohol that leaves you feeling this way, but the added (secret ingredients) that we think just aren't that cool. Here's a fave of ours.  Omission. Gluten free and (to our research), low ingredients.

We don't want to totally burst your bubble, but here's a bit more about the "unlabeled" ingredients in some popular beers.
Hey, the more you know... right?

Alright, you are armed and dangerous with some great ideas for football Sunday.  Let us know what you make, we'd love to hear how you've upgraded your football parties to make Monday that much more enjoyable.

Now go get 'em,
Katie
